May 7, 2023Two By Two Part 2By: Pastor ChambersSeries: Sunday EveningJesus did not attempt to proclaim the gospel to the world singlehandedly. Instead, He recruited others to spread the message of salvation. In Mark 6:7-13, we read of the first time Jesus officially commissioned His disciples to go out and preach. Notice first how Jesus called and commissioned the twelve disciples to go out as His representatives. They went out by the authority of Jesus. In so doing, they went out in total reliance on God for provision and success. Note how the disciples responded with obedience. “They went out and preached….” Some would receive the message they were to deliver, and some would reject it, but they were not responsible for the actions of others. They obeyed and their obedience would honor God. The content of their message was simple. People needed to change their minds about sin and their need for a Savior and turn to Christ. That is the message of repentance. It is the message that John the Baptist preached, that Jesus preached, and that all followers of Jesus should preach. We also see how God worked through them to confirm their message. God gave them miraculous abilities that proved that the gospel they preached was of God. While we do not have the same miraculous abilities today, we do have the same Holy Spirit working through us to confirm God’s word in the hearts of those who hear. Believers today are in a similar position to those apostles. We have been commissioned to go forth and preach the message of the gospel. We are not responsible for how people respond, but we will answer to God for our obedience. We go out by the authority of Jesus and preach, relying on God to work through us.

Feb 12, 2023The Courage of Revival Part 2By: Pastor ChambersSeries: Sunday EveningReading the history of the Jews in the Old Testament can be very frustrating because there are so many instances of repeated rebellion followed by the predictable outcome of God’s judgment. At some points, they experienced a genuine spiritual revival. One such revival took place under the leadership of king Asa in the southern kingdom of Judah. The story is recorded for us in 2 Chronicles 15. The condition of the nation prior to this revival was horrible. The country was “without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law” and in trouble. God sent a prophet to warn and encourage the nation and the king. If they would repent and turn to God, He would deliver them from their hardship. To do that would require a tremendous amount of courage on the part of king Asa. He would have to take steps that might upset some people, even to the point of violent retribution. Had Asa been a coward, he would have allowed the people to keep doing what they were doing. Instead, “he took courage, and put away the abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin.” He led the people to renew the altar to the Lord. They then restarted the practice of public assembly for instruction in the word of God, and there was a real affirmation of their commitment to follow the Lord. Make no mistake: it takes courage to admit that you are wrong, that your friends are wrong, or that your family is wrong. It takes even more courage to do something about it and make it right. But if revival is to take place in your life, you must be brave enough to deal with sin.

Jan 22, 2023Jael and the Nail (Judges 4:11-21 KJV)By: Pastor ChambersSeries: Sunday EveningBarak was listed in Hebrews 11 as an example of faith, but his faith was very weak because it depended on someone else. He refused to go into battle at the command of the Lord unless Deborah, the prophetess, came with him. She agreed but informed him that the credit for the victory would not go to him
but to a woman.Barak gathered his army, and word got to Sisera, the general of the Canaanite army, that the Israelites were preparing for battle. He made the first move and, with his superior forces, tried to surround them quickly. God, however, was on Israel’s side and discomfited the army of the Canaanites. As Sisera’s army fled in terror, he found himself on foot, running for his life. He made his way to the Homestead of Heber, a family with whom they were at peace. Jael, the wife of Heber, hid him in her tent and gave him milk to drink and a comfortable place to sleep. While he slept, she took advantage of the opportunity and drove a spike through his head, ending his life. From Barack, we learn the grace of God to give us victory even when our faith is weak. From Sisera, we learn the folly of trusting in our own strength, our own weapons, and our own ingenuity. The lesson is clear from both. Only by trusting God will we have victory. - Jan 8, 2023Jesus’ First Sermon
Jan 8, 2023Jesus’ First SermonBy: Pastor ChambersSeries: Sunday Evening
Jesus did not begin His public ministry until He was approximately thirty years old. When the time came for Him to begin preaching and teaching, He chose a topic for His first sermon that was the theme of His earthly ministry. Jesus preached the gospel. “Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” (Mark 1:14-15) Jesus’ message was simple. He said that it was time to repent and believe the gospel. Jesus would go on to teach many more things and expound on the meaning and impact of the gospel message, but it all began with this simple declaration. We need to follow our Savior’s example. Too often we overcomplicate our evangelism. We think we have to have attractive promotions, novel outreach programs and witty publications to reach the lost. In reality, the foundation of our soul winning must remain the simple proclamation that Jesus began His ministry with. As we seek to be faithful sowers of the gospel seed, we must simply reiterate the age-old message that it is time for the lost to repent and believe the gospel for salvation.
