Focus on the Fields
Our theme for this years Missions Conference is “Focus on the Fields” based on John 4:34. “Lift up your eyes and look on the fields, for they are white already to harvest.”
There are three choices we must make if we are going to fulfill our duty to preach the gospel to every creature.
First, we must “lift up our eyes.” Distractions can have deadly consequences. The distractions of Christians can have eternally deadly consequences for the lost. With so much to distract us, we must choose to pry our eyes away from the vain and the mundane so that we can focus on the fields.
Then we must “look on the fields.” There must be an intentional concentration on the eternal task of making disciples. We must have a singular focus like our Savior.
Finally, we must pray for and provide the labor needed to bring in the spiritual harvest of souls. We must be purposely occupied in the work of winning souls.
Are we a generation of lazy Christians? While our buildings may be impeccable and our statistics sometimes impressive, the spiritual fruit being born is lackluster. Thorns and nettles have grown over spiritual walls that are crumbling. The harvest field is ripe, but has it become the field of the slothful (Proverbs 24:30-34).
Are we bearing fruit or are our spiritual fields covered in the weeds of distraction? Have we lost our focus? Have we stopped our labor?
The need is greater than ever but our zeal has not kept up. Instead, we have slackened our pace while the world hurries to its eternal death. We must lift our eyes, look on the fields, and labor for the harvest.
