Satan wants to ruin your marriage because marriage is the most sacred institution on earth. The relationship between a husband and wife is supposed to exemplify the relationship between Christ and the church, making marriage of special importance to Christians and a special target for Satan.
It is hard enough for two sinners to get along but then you add Satan’s focused attacks on marriage and the result is something that often feels more like a gauntlet than a rose garden. Statistically, half of all marriages will fail. Biblically, yours can be one that succeeds. There is no such thing as a perfect marriage because there are two imperfect people involved, but there is such a thing of a marriage that is blessed by God. We have to learn what God says about marriage and obey Him to experience that kind of marriage.
1 Peter 3:7 says “Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.”
The phrase “heirs together of the grace of life” holds a key for Christians that can unlock the potential blessings of marriage. When you stop to think that you and your spouse are bound together, not only by a marriage certificate or the children you have together, but by a shared spiritual heritage, it changes the way you view your relationship. God has given you a spiritual partner to accompany you as you journey through life. True togetherness is not physical or emotional, it is spiritual. The best marriage is one where husband and wife understand how important the other is to their spiritual life and therefore work hard to build a spiritual bond in God’s grace.
