When God created the earth, the sun, the
moon, and the stars, He arranged them all
so that life on earth would go through cycles
and phases. We call these cycles seasons,
months, weeks, and days. There is a rhythm
to God’s design that causes all things to be
done decently and in order.
Our lives have a similar rhythm to them.
We go through cycles and phases of life
during which some things are in season,
and some things are not. Solomon put it
this way:To every thing there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
This week we celebrate the New Year. Our
planet has made another full trip around the
sun, and so we change our calendars and get
the sense of a fresh start. During this time,
many people reflect on the previous year,
evaluate what they have done, and make plans
for the new year. There are many things that
we would like to do, goals we would like to
accomplish or milestones that we would like
For every plan we make, we must consider
this question: Is this God’s time to do this?
Some of our seasons are determined for us,
like when we are born and when we die. But
for most of the seasons of life, it is up to us to
use Godly wisdom to make the right choices
at the right time.
Ephesians 5:1 tells us to “redeem the times.”
We are to make the best use of the time that
God gives us. There are opportunities that God
has given you in this season of life that you may
never get again. Don’t be frustrated about the
season of life that you are in because, in it, God
is giving you unique opportunities to serve Him.
