Vision. Perspective. Focus. These words all describe how we look at life. As 2019 has ended and we look forward to 2020, it is good for us all to take a moment to reevaluate our outlook on life. It is easy to get our eyes off of the truly important things and become distracted by things that have no eternal significance.
As disciples of Jesus Christ, our focus should the same as Jesus’ focus. It is not hard to determine what that focus was. Read through the Gospels and you will learn that Jesus was filled with a passion to save the lost. His focus was on the eternal souls of all humanity. He came to earth for a short period of time with one goal: fulfill the plan of salvation to rescue mankind from sin and give all who believe eternal life in heaven. Jesus was never distracted from that goal. He maintained His focus perfectly.
But to His disciples He had to say,
“Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.” (John 4:35)
We are so easily distracted from what is really important that we have to be frequently reminded to “lift up our eyes.” We have to take our eyes off of the things that don’t matter and place our focus on the things that do.
This new year presents us with an opportunity to have a fresh start with a renewed focus on our priority as disciples of Christ. We need to Focus on the Fields, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with the lost around us and reaping the spiritual harvest of souls saved.
