Assurance of Salvation

How many Christians struggle with assurance of salvation?  A vast majority of Christians have wondered at least once, “Am I really saved?”  If you find yourself wrestling with your own eternal security, then you are in good company. Some religious groups, even some that are considered to be evangelical Christians, teach that you cannot know for sure that you are saved.  Still, others teach that you can somehow lose your salvation or choose to give it back.  The Bible does not teach either of these things.1 John 5:13 states “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life.”  God wants us to know for sure that we are saved and our assurance of salvation can only come from the Holy Spirit through the word of God.Too often people depend on their feelings for assurance of salvation.  But feelings change so our assurance can change along with them.  That is why we must allow the Holy Spirit to assure our hearts through the truth contained in scripture. The Bible tells us that Jesus promises to give His followers eternal life that can never be taken away.  This life is received when one chooses to trust in Jesus for salvation.  When one is saved, they are completely changed, resulting in certain actions and attitudes that are indicators that one truly possesses eternal life.To put it simply, we do not have assurance of salvation by trusting our memory or our feelings, but by trusting in God and His word.
